The designs in my Poppy Collection are made from either silver, or silver and copper. I form the flowers by hand, from sheets of silver. They are given a delicate texture with the edge of a hammer, which reflects the light, papery texture of poppy petals.

Each design is oxidised once complete. Oxidisation is a process which uses liver of sulphur to speed up the natural process of tarnishing, and turns the surface of the silver a dark slate grey colour. I then polish every piece by hand, partially rubbing back to the silver surface, emphasising the texture, and giving the designs a beautiful mellow patina, and a slightly antique feel.

Bold and beautiful, poppies are one of the quintessential summer meadow flowers. In recent years, they have become associated with remembrance, but in the language of flowers poppies are associated with the imagination, whilst the red poppy represents pleasure. The poppy is one of the birth flowers for the month of August.

The Poppy collection is a neat, pretty and dainty set of designs, perfect for lovers of summer flowers, and ideal for anyone who shares their name with the flower.
