I recently completed an excellent one day navigation course with North East Guides, and finally got to grips with using a map and compass. This really is an essential skill if you’re venturing into the hills, even if you usually rely on an app on your phone. I got to try out my what I learned yesterday, when I tackled a walk over Shillhope Law and Kyloe Shin.
it was a lovely early autumn day, sunny to start with, then with some dramatic cloudy skies later. I love being out at this time of year, when everywhere is a little quieter, and the dreaded bracken starts to turn bronze and die back.
A steepish climb was soon rewarded with beautiful views down into the valley, and across to my return route. Definitely one to add to my list of favourites.
Beautiful – I love autumn!
