angel of the north

The Angel of the North
The Angel of the North

We have just returned from a trip to the north of England, which is why I’ve been very quiet for a while. Amongst other things, we paid a visit to the Angel of the North, the Antony Gormley sculpture near Gateshead. I’ve seen it many times when driving along the A1, but never actually been up close before.

It turned out to be the perfect day and time, as the winter sun was just slipping down behind the sculpture.

Apparently it was, and still is, a controversial piece, but I think it looks incredibly beautiful, perched up on its hill, watching over the landscape.

  1. I love Gormley’s work (and not just because he was a contemporary of my ex-husband at The Slade) … at Crosby Beach just by my husband’s familial home is the wonderful ‘Another Place’ … we’ll be there on 29th December tying something or other on one or other of the figures … this is a fabulous photo of an iconic piece of work
