This week’s photo challenge invites us to show our interpretation of ‘descent’.
We visited this lighthouse on the Île de Ré, off the Atlantic coast of France, on a holiday in (I was horrified to discover) 2007. It has 257 steps, and stands at 57 metres high. As I recall, the descent was every bit as energy-sapping as the ascent.
I think this shot must have been taken from somewhere near the top, looking down the centre of the spiral staircase. I remember being slightly put out that I couldn’t get a picture without any people in it, but looking at it now, I think it would be a poorer photograph without them.
You can’t quite make it out, but at the bottom is a beautiful marble floor with a starburst design in black, grey and cream, and the date 1854 in the centre.
You can see how other bloggers have interpreted the same theme on the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge blog.
A great photo and I agree with you the people moving about on the stairs really adds to your composition.
Terrific photo.
Wonderful photo I’m not sure I could look down to the bottom!
