One of the (many) lovely things about living in this area of France is seeing how clean and clear the rivers and streams are. Fishing is a very popular pastime, the Allier River is well known for salmon fishing.

In the photo above, we are standing on a bridge above the River Doulon, which runs through Vals le Chastel, our nearest village.  Those are our shadows, and the water is so crystal clear that you can see every stone and pebble on the bottom of the river.

Here’s a close up of the river bed – you’d hardly know it was under water, apart from the ripples catching the sunlight.

I’ve attempted to represent the essence of a pebbly river bed with this silver bangle. The circles and hoops reflect the different shapes, sized and textures of the pebbles, and the spiral captures the ripples on the surface of the water.

It was fun to make, and it’s a pretty and unusual design, even if you don’t know the story behind its inspiration. It’s available in my online shop now.
