We planted out our tomatoes yesterday. We have grown some from seed, but these were bought as young plants from the spring fair at nearby Chanteuges a few weeks ago.
I have been covetously eyeing these spiral tomato supports in other people’s gardens for a while now, and this year we finally decided to buy some. I think they already look fantastic without any plants growing up them, to be honest. They’re a really strong architectural shape, twisting up into the sky. They’re certainly giving our garden some much needed height, along with our rather rustic sweet pea wigwams.
Here are our lovely bio tomato plants – Marmande and Green Zebra. We have five of each. The sticks are there to stop the cats from rolling on them!

Wow! the first photo is gorgeous, you got so good view, I love it.
Your tomato stakes have me intrigued… as the plant grows do you gently wrap the plant around the spiral? Does the spiral remove the need to “tie” the plant to a stake?
Those stakes are excellent!
Hi Joanne, the idea is that the plant grows up through the centre of the spiral, and doesn’t need to be tied. Not entirely convinced, but we’ll see! There’s a photo of one in action on this website: http://www.easygardener.co.uk/spiral-plant-support-p-84.html
