I always look forward to this rose coming into bloom. It’s an English Rose from David Austin Roses, and it’s called Golden Celebration. It was a gift from a very dear friend and colleague when I left work at Leeds Library Service, and as she said at the time, it’s a little piece of England here in rural France.
It has gorgeous big golden-yellow flowers, which are described as “giant, full-petalled cups.” It also has a lovely scent, which I think it slightly citrussy, but which is apparently “a wonderful combination of sauterne wine and strawberry” (!)
The individual blooms are complex and beautiful, and the plant has an emotional significance for me too, which to my mind makes it a perfect work of art.
That is beautiful x
