This house is one of three in a tiny hamlet just up the hill from us. One is inhabited all year round, one is derelict, and this one is a maison secondaire. It gets used three or four times a year, during the school holidays.
Last week was half term, and the house was full of life. This week we walked up there to find it empty again. Shutters closed, standing silent beneath a grey sky, abandoned until summer. Waiting.
Inspiring post!
There’s such a romance to these old, dilapidated places. I always try to imagine what they used to be, who used to live there… and I wish I could save and restore every one! Alas, not enough money nor lifetimes for such a project.
