It’s taken a long time, and a lot of paint, but we’ve finally finished painting the little house. I’m really pleased with the way it’s turned out, epecially how much brighter it looks. I’m not sure when it was last decorated, or what colour it was supposed to be, but it had ended up a sort of yellowish off-white colour (I think the previous inhabitant was a smoker). The new white paint looks really fresh and clean, and it’s made a huge difference painting the dark wood cupboards in a pale aqua colour.
Here’s what it looked like when we first viewed the house (note strange mural on the wall/door on the right):
And here’s the new less cluttered version, complete with cat:
At the other end of the room there was a low concrete bench which I think was used a a sofa, a weird lamp sticking out of the wall, and a big (filthy) open fireplace:
The bench has gone, replaced by a proper sofa (much more comfortable), and we’ve had a woodburner put in the fireplace. The chimney and end wall are a light buff colour:
There’s a bit more fiddling to be done with curtains, and I’ve decided to paint the door to the cupboard under the sink (I wasn’t sure the paint would stretch that far), but it’s pretty much done. I’ve been happy enough using the house as my workshop, but now it’s a really cheerful and welcoming place to be.
